Why does the laser specialist ask if I have been tanning? Print E-mail
Skin that is darker due to UV exposure (sun or tanning bed) should not be treated by the laser and could result in hypo-pigmentation and/or hyper-pigmentation (lightening and darkening of the skin).   During your consultation, the certified laser specialist will ask some questions regarding your natural skin pigment and might inquire if the tattoo area has been in the sun to determine appropriate laser settings.  If you have had recent exposure, you might be instructed to wait a few weeks until you start your treatments.  In addition, it is very important to keep the treated area out of any UV light until treatment is completed.  We suggest keeping the area covered and/or use 25+ waterproof sunscreen.
